Charleston County Video Visitation

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office offers video visitation services to allow inmates to stay connected with loved ones.

Video visitation sessions must be scheduled in advance through the sheriff’s office website or mobile app.

Each inmate is allotted a certain number of video visitation sessions per week based on their housing unit and custody level.

Visitation

To visit an inmate, you need to set up an account at www.SECURUSTech.net. The inmate can choose not to see a visitor.

Visitors from out-of-state can get one unscheduled video visit if there is space, by showing an out-of-state ID.

Rules & Regulations

Visitors who seem to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to visit. All visitors must be at least 17 years old, or if younger, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to schedule an online visit.

Members of the clergy who are related to an inmate must follow the regular visitation rules. Any visitor exhibiting disruptive behavior may have their visit canceled at any time.

Proper Attire

Visitors must wear appropriate clothing that meets reasonable standards. Halter tops, underwear-type shirts, tank tops, fishnet shirts, or any see-through clothing are not allowed for any visitors, male or female.

If the visitation officer believes a visitor’s clothing is inappropriate, they may deny the visit. Visitors must remain fully clothed during the entire visit. Shoes and shirts are mandatory attire for all visitors.

Schedule

Currently, most visits are online only, except for attorney visits. Attorneys can visit in person Monday through Friday, except holidays, at these times:

9:00 am – 11:00 am
1:30 pm – 4:00 pm
7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

For personal visits, friends and family can only visit online. Online visits can be scheduled Sunday through Saturday during these times:

8:00am – 10:50am (Last visit scheduled for 10:20am)
1:00pm – 4:25pm (Last visit scheduled for 3:55pm)
7:00pm – 10:00pm (Last visit scheduled for 9:30pm)

You need to go to www.SECURUSTech.net to schedule online visits. The visitation schedule can change depending on jail operations.

Schedule Video Visitation with the inmate

You can take the following actions to arrange a video visitation with a prisoner at the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office:

Visit the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office website at https://sheriff.charlestoncounty.org/.
Under the “Online Services” section on the left-hand side, click on the “Schedule Video Visitation” link.

You will be directed to the Securustech website securustech.net/ and click the “Create Account” button.
Follow the provided prompts to set up a new account, providing basic information such as your name, email address, and phone number.

After creating your account, use the search bar to find the inmate you intend to visit. Input the inmate’s first and last name or booking number.
Once you’ve located the inmate, check their available video visit times. Choose a suitable date and time, then click “Schedule Visit.”
Before confirming the visit, ensure that you make the necessary payment through SECURUSTech. They accept various payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, and prepaid accounts.
Prepare for your video visit by ensuring a stable internet connection and having a webcam. Download the SECURUSTech Video Visits app on your computer or mobile device.
At the scheduled visit time, log in to the SECURUSTech app and click on the “Join Visit” button. This will connect you to the inmate through a secure video call.

The Charleston County Detention Center provides tablets to inmates through Securus Technologies. These tablets give inmates access to apps and content to help pass the time while detained.

To send electronic messages to an inmate at the Charleston County Detention Center, friends and family first need to set up an account with Securus Technologies.

You can do this online at www.securustech.net or through their mobile app (available on iPhone and Android).

Once your account is set up, you’ll need to deposit enough money to cover the costs of messages and any replies from the inmate.

Here are the rates:

Each message stamp costs $0.25.
Sending a regular text message costs 1 stamp.
Adding a photo costs 1 additional stamp ($0.25).
Adding a video costs 2 additional stamps ($0.50).

So a message with a photo costs 2 stamps total ($0.50) and a message with a video costs 3 stamps total ($0.75). Taxes are not included in those rates.

Please note that tablet and messaging access is a privilege and not all inmates have access. Confirm that the inmate can receive messages before depositing money into your account.

Tablet Subscription Services

Inmates at the Charleston County Detention Center can access music, games, movies, and TV shows through Securus tablets.

To use these services, inmates need to purchase a subscription using funds in their Securus debit account.

As a friend or family member, you can pay for subscriptions by setting up an account at www.securustech.net or on the Securus mobile app (for iPhone and Android).

After depositing money into your Securus account, you can purchase a 1-month tablet subscription for the inmate. It costs $5 for the first day, and then the next 29 days are free.

With an active subscription, the inmate can then shop in the media store to download music, games, and rent movies/shows.

Anything purchased or rented remains available for up to 1 year, as long as the $5 monthly subscription is renewed.
